This year’s meeting of the European Geoscience Union (EGU), an internationally recognized gathering of leading experts in the field, featured a strong contribution from awardees of the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science.

Taking place in Vienna, Austria, from 8–13 April, the 2018 EGU General Assembly included presentations from three Program awardees discussing the latest advances made in their innovative research projects overseen by the Program in collaboration with experts from the National Center of Meteorology (NCM).

Dr Juha Tonttila, a member of the research team led by Second Cycle awardee, Professor Hannele Korhonen, led a poster presentation on the “Optimization of Aerosol Seeding In rain enhancement Strategies (OASIS)”, a multidisciplinary project led by Finnish Meteorological Institute with the aim of quantifying the role of atmospheric aerosols in rain enhancement.

In addition, Professor Volker Wulfmeyer, Chair of Physics and Meteorology from the University of Hohenheim and an awardee of the Program’s First Cycle, gave a presentation to an EGCU audience detailing his project investigating the impact of ‘convergence zones’ induced by complex atmospheric flows on the formation and location of clouds, and the possible linkage between variations in land surface features and rainfall characteristics.

Finally, Professor Giles Harrison of the University of Reading in UK, another Program Second Cycle awardee, presented his research on the “Electrical aspects of rain generation”, a project that is assessing the electrical properties of clouds with a view to modeling the growth of charged drops to raindrops and measure and modify the charges present in clouds.

As Europe’s premier geosciences union, the EGU is a leading forum for Earth, planetary, and space sciences convening over 11,800 scientists from around the world each year. Covering topics ranging from volcanology, planetary exploration and Earth structure and atmosphere, to climatic phenomena, energy and resources, the 2018 event featured nearly 17,000 presentations along with hundreds of specialized scientific sessions, side events and short courses.

Volkswagen Passat 1998-2005 B5.5 windshield washer nozzle replacement (non-heated) and battery location

197F1593-EE95-4283-B537-BF145078AF41258595E7-FC1F-429B-AD0D-2FDCC7B74E05

The battery is below the plastic panel next to the fire wall. The cabin air filter is under there too.
You can see this panel in the picture. It has an arrow on it.

To remove the washer nozzle tug the side closest to the front straight down, then slide it out from the back connection point. The tubing slack is enough to pull out the barbed 90-degree connector. To install it slide the back in first then push the front straight up till it clicks. Warm weather is good for removing plastics.

Volkswagen Passat 1998-2005 Turn Signal Relay Replacement and Bad O Reilly auto parts battery and warranty trouble

Call or email me Jason Thompson if you need help with your restoration in the Las Vegas area.

I can also send rust free parts anywhere!

702-803-4263
Niflheim.Thompson@gmail.com

————-

The turn signal relay started clicking, something is draining the battery, time to replace the relay?

Maybe but the first rule is make sure everything else is good. For example our bad battery made the relay malfunction.

Update:

The problem was the bad battery. I bought it at O Reilly auto parts less than a year ago. They couldn’t find my warranty for awhile. This problem has been going on for two months. I had them test the battery 6 times. Pep Boys said it was bad.
Still no warranty return until last night.

Tip: I brought the battery in hot after driving all day. They tested the alternator with their Auto Meter gauge. It was good. I performed a parasitic draw test. It was good. They should try that service free?

It finally said failed battery!

With the new battery in everything works awesome!

The low battery voltage was probably causing the turn signal relays to trip Out. And other systems…

Random side note: If everyone got a lithium ion battery with thermoelectric temperature regulator we would have a good net benefit especially from pm from road dust.
Since light vehicles are the cleanest.

Public Works Coffee Bar Signals Downtown Henderson Water Street Revival

Henderson Nevada produced the world’s largest supply of magnesium for the United States Military in the 1940’s.

The plant needed water which was pumped up water street. Back then the town was booming! Tons of cheap housing for the poor workers now making their way up the social ladder.

The Downtown Arts District in Las Vegas is now booming. This boom is going to transfer to Henderson.

But why three stories? This is the arid southwest not San Francisco…another military industrial complex but that another story.

Native Seeds Search.org seeds for the Southwest Arid Climate

https://www.nativeseeds.org/our-approach/seed-bank

Niflheim Media bought some seeds from here a few years ago. They were great.

Here is a quote from their website:

“NS/S utilizes a two-pronged approach to conserving crop genetic resources from the southwestern US and northwestern Mexico. Ex situ approaches involve conserving samples of crop seeds under frozen storage conditions, where they may remain viable (able to germinate) for long periods of time. We also utilize in situ approaches that support and encourage the ongoing relationship between people and plants through which both natural and human selection pressures continue to result in the development of new crop varieties – the same relationship between people and plants that produced the diversity present today.

The NS/S Seed Bank is at the core of our conservation efforts. It serves as a repository for seeds, guarded in a safe environment for the proverbial “rainy day”. In this case, the rainy day is when a crop can no longer be found growing in a farmer’s field. Domesticated crops depend on an intimate relationship with humans – they don’t exist in the wild. Over thousands of years, traditional agriculturists have selected and saved seed from plants that expressed a diversity of traits of interest to them or their communities – the ability to mature before the first frost, a sweeter taste, faster cooking time, or resistance to specific insects or diseases. Local, regional and global food security depends on this diversity. A seed bank’s primary function is to conserve this genetic diversity for the future.

GLOSSARY OF TERMS
The terms used here are from Geneflow: A publication about the Earth’s Genetic Resources, produced annually by Bioversity International.

Accession: Plant sample, strain or population held in a genebank or breeding program for conservation or use.

Biodiversity: The total variability within and among species of all living organisms and their habitats.

Ex Situ Conservation: Conservation of a plant outside of its original or natural habitat.

Genebank: Facility where germplasm is stored in the form of seeds, pollen, etc., or in the case of a field genebank, as plants growing in the field.

Gene Pool: All the genes and their different alleles present in an interbreeding population.

Genetic Diversity: The genetic variation present in a population or species.

Genetic Erosion: Loss of genetic diversity between and within populations of the same species over time or reduction of the genetic base of a species due to human intervention, environmental changes, etc.

Genetic Resources: Genetic material of plants, animals, and other organisms which is of value as a resource for present and future generations.

Genotype: (1) The genetic constitution of an organism. (2) A group of organisms with similar genetic constitutions.

Germplasm: A set of genotypes that may be conserved or used, e.g., seeds, clones, pollen.

In Situ Conservation: Conservation of plants or animals in areas where they developed their distinctive properties, i.e., in the wild or in farmers’ fields.

Indigenous/Local Knowledge: Knowledge that develops in a particular area and accumulates over time through being handed down from generation to generation.

Landraces: Farmer-developed varieties of crop plants that are adapted to local environmental conditions.

Plant Genetic Resources: The genetic material of plants, which determines their characteristics and hence their ability to adapt and survive.

Regeneration: The growing out of a sample from an accession to replenish the original accession’s viability.

Wild Relative: A non-cultivated species which is more or less closely related to a crop species (usually in the same genus). It is not normally used for agriculture but can occur in agro-ecosystems (e.g., as a weed or a component of pasture or grazing lands).

The seed bank houses approximately 1,900 different accessions of traditional crops utilized as food, fiber and dye by the Apache, Chemehuevi, Cocopah”
